Vacation In Hell is the second studio album from the New York based hip-hop group Flatbush Zombies, which, consist of Meechy Darko, Zombie Juice, and Erick Arc Elliott. Throughout the album, the production varies between the dark, eerie beat of "HELL-O" and the lighter and more fun beat of "Vacation". Or trap style beat of "Chunky" and boom bap beat of "The Goddess". Overall Erick Elliott really outdid himself with most of the production on this album. Equally as great was the lyricism of all three MCs. Each member had moments throughout the album where they a chance to shine. That was an issue I had with their debut album 3001: A Laced Odyssey. Even though the album was very good, I felt that Meechy outshined the other two MCs. However, on this project, Erick Elliott and Zombie Juice definitely stepped up. There are a lot great features on the project. A$AP Twelvyy appears on "Leather Symphony" with a dope second verse and a great little exchange on the final verse with Zombie Juice. My favorite feature was Jadakiss on "Facts"who meshed so well Meechy Darko.
There were songs like "Headstone" that were amazing with the way they paid homage to great hip-hop artists, albums, and songs. Also songs like "Trapped" were very deep and introspective with Erick and Meechy touching on the struggles they had with suicidal thoughts. Meechy's verse was especially powerful with his verse which was essentially a suicide note. The song "YouAreMySunhine" was a great tribute to A$AP Yams who was not only a great influence to A$AP Mob, but the other artists, like Flatbush Zombies, across the culture.
Overall I think this is their best project to date. I would say that the only minor gripe I have with the project it was slight top heavy, but it doesn't make the album any less enjoyable. Flatbush Zombies are a very underrated group that is getting better and better with each project they put out. I can't wait to hear what they have in store the future.
